Once Upon a Time X

It's that time of year again. Spring has sprung and Carl's Once Upon a Time challenge is with us once again.

(Art by Melissa Nucera)

“It’s a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.” -- J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings

The Once Upon a Time X Challenge has a few rules:

Rule #1: Have fun.

Rule #2: HAVE FUN.

Rule #3: Don’t keep the fun to yourself, share it with us, please!

Rule #4: Do not be put off by the word “challenge”.

There are all kinds of options so please check out Carl's sign-up post.

I'll be doing:

Which is to: Read at least 5 books that fit somewhere within the Once Upon a Time categories. They might all be fantasy, or folklore, or fairy tales, or mythology… or your five books might be a combination from the four genres.

I have a few books I want to read and have created a Goodreads shelf here. I own seven of them and may or may not buy the other two. Hopefully I can get a few of them read as they've been on my TBR pile for years!

Happy reading and thanks to Carl once again for hosting.

I thought I wasn't going to do any more reading challenges this year, but... I can't quite resist this one. *vbg* Thank you for the heads-up, I would have missed it otherwise! Think I might play fast and loose this year on The Journey though - that way if I get distracted I won't feel so bad. But I'll still try and do the various quests within it (and hope that's not cheating... *g*) I do like a bit of myth and magic, though.

Looking forward to seeing what you read this year!
I thought I'd got enough challenges on too and thought about giving this a miss for the first time in years. *But* I'm trying to get books off my tbr pile and there are 6 or 7 fantasy books sitting on the shelf so this is a good opportunity to read them. I also have Your copy of The Raven Boys... that's suitable for OUaT isn't it?
The Raven Boys would definitely fit - I think I used it last year, in fact! *g*
Excellent. Thank you. I've put it on the pile!

Annoyingly, I've started a book for the challenge that I'm not sure I like. First book in the series was a bit ho-hum... second sounded a bit better but I'm not sure it is...
Oh no, how disappointing! Which book...? Hopefully not too long a one...
It's Kingdom Beyond the Waves by Stephen Hunt, a sequel to Court of the Air which, if memory serves, you also read and felt a bit like me about. Uninspired? It lacked something... depth? Anyway, this one has picked up a bit so we'll see. I'm reading it on my Kindle so hopefully I can whizz along with it and get on to something else.
I'm very much leaning toward accepting this challenge. I may live to regret it, but it sounds to good to pass up.
I think it's too good to pass up too. I'm not keeping as close an eye on LJ as I'd like atm, so if I miss your post give me a nudge on Goodreads or something.
I shall do so. :-)
